A public library is a time-honored institution, created to serve the community and based on the concept of sharing resources. When one person abuses their privileges that person takes advantage of the community as a whole. Clinton-Macomb Public Library has established reasonable rules for the enjoyment of library materials.

To encourage the prompt return of materials, the Library charges a per day overdue fine based on the type of material (see above chart). On the day after the due date, all materials will be considered overdue if they have not been renewed or returned. No fines will accrue on days that the Library is closed.
Notification of Overdue Material
The Library’s computer will notify customers of overdue materials via automated telephone calls, email, or SMS (text messaging) that comply with the Michigan Library Privacy Act. The automated telephone calls will be the default mode of communication. Customers may opt for notices by email or text.
The total number of holds that can be placed by an individual is limited to 20 items.
The North Branch Library offers a unique after-hours pickup. If you call the library to inform them that you will not be able to pick up your item during normal business hours, the staff will place the book in a locker. The locker is accessible inside the North Branch lobby. By keying in the last 7 digits of the library card number an assigned locker will open up to reveal the checked-out items.
Customers are responsible for all materials checked out on their card and are liable for any damages that may occur to library materials. If there is damage to library materials that does not make the material unusable, (i.e. crayon or ink marks, binding or cover damage, water damage), appropriate charges will be assessed.
Replacement of Damaged Materials
The Library will notify the customer of charges for lost or damaged items. The charge will be the full retail list price for the item. No replacements will be accepted.
Any customer who has 10 or more items overdue, or whose fines or replacement value for unreturned materials exceed $15 shall forfeit borrowing privileges until materials are returned and fines are paid. Customers experiencing unusual difficulty in returning their materials or paying their fines should advise the library staff.
